작가노트

프로젝트 WeavingLab.은 디지털 파놉티콘 시대의 권력과 통제에 대한 주제탐구와 역사, 공간, 감성을 매개하는 창의적 예술작업을 실험한다.

정서온은 옛 광주교도소를 방문하여 그 곳에 있었을 존재들에게 집중한다.

디지털 페인팅의 매체를 이용하여 애니메이션 Short Film 으로 '공안수'에 대해 이야기하고자한다. 공안수는 다른 사상, 다른 주의 주장을 가지고 이를 표현했다는 이유로 국가로부터 배제되어 구금에 처해진 사람이다.

바깥세계와 교도소 사이의 경계, 벽 안에서의 작은 존재이지만 자신의 빛을 가려서 어둠을 가리지만 그 역시 존재이다. 미명(微明)은 '희미하게 밝음'을 뜻하며, 빛이 있으면 그림자가 있고, 어둠이 있으면 밝음도 있다. 삶의 이면도 이와같다고 생각한다.

Artist's Note

Project Weaving Lab explores the theme of power and control in the era of the digital panopticon and experiments with creative artworks that mediate history, space, and sensibility.

Seoon Jung visits the old Gwangju Prison and focuses on the beings who would have been there.

Using the medium of digital painting, she uses an animated short film to talk about a 'public security prisoner': a person who has been excluded and detained by the state, accused of having and expressing different ideas, different ~isms and different opinions.

Though he is a trivial being with his light dimmed in darkness, within the walls that serve as the border between the outside world and the prison, he is still an existence. The ‘subtle light’ refers to a ‘faint brightness’, and if there is light, there is shadow; if there is darkness, there is also lightness. She thinks the other side of life is the same.
